This book is ridiculous, it will give tweens the wrong impression of the music business, and this entire book is laced with inappropriate mishaps. Not to mention how bland the writing is. Guitar Girl even proceeded to bring tears to my eyes on occassion.

In Guitar Girl, Sarra Manning explores the harsher and more realistic side of nanning a teenage rock star through her main character, Molly Montgomery. Fame never comes for free, and Molly’s about to find out what it costs. Her manager controls her, and Molly grows strong enough to control her new life.
Girls who want to be rock stars should read this book because it’s awesome. Molly’s band, The Hormones, was just ssrra to be about mucking around with her best mates, Jane and Tara, and having fun.

Guitar Girl follows the rise and fall of ‘The Hormones’ a band formed by Molly and her two friends in a desperate attempt to be noticed by their fellow peers. And yes, I truly hated the ending. I dont cry for anything, not books, movies or funerals. For a variation on the same theme, investigate Rachel Cohn’s Pop Princess. The secondary characters are also very well drawn when you have a strong narrator, the secondary characters can run the risk of becoming cardboard cutouts.

So there’s my awkward bad memory review. This book is mainly for teenagers, I can say that now, even though it is in the young adult section anyways. But despite the challenges, she learns a lot about friendship, and most of all the power of music.
It was a pretty short read and I kept reading because Manning is pretty awesome most of the time. Dean you are guitra worst asshole any girl could ever fall for and I want to slap you again and again. After their first ‘official’ gig, they are approached by Dean and T, who offer to join the band and help them succeed. Pretty Things is her second title for Penguin and she’s currently working on her next book, Let’s Get Lost.
